We are very glad to see that you have an interest in joining the University of California Band as a trombonist. Our section and the Band at large offer numerous opportunities for experiencing the camaraderie, outstanding musicianship, and fun that should be a part of every college marching band and particularly thrive here at Berkeley. Your time here as a member of one of the few remaining student-run college bands will be rewarding in many ways: each member of our section has grown not only musically, but also socially, academically, and personally. We encourage you to join our section and help us preserve the traditions, excellence, and spirit of the California Golden Bones.
The process of becoming a member of the UC Band is not a stressful one. A musical audition with our director, Robert Calonico, is required in the summer, along with a simple marching evaluation that takes place at the end of the Fall Training Program in August. The Band seeks to expand its membership and encourages musicians of varying levels to audition; you should be prepared for your auditions, but bear in mind that they are not designed to turn recruits away. For more information on the audition process, please visit the BandŐs recruitment website.
We look forward to seeing you here as a member of the Golden Bones
