Bomb-Eater

.:The Bomb-Eater
The bomb eater is a long standing trumpet tradition. When the Cal Band marches out of the North Tunnel, the drums play their cadence, the crowd yells, and an explosion greets the band at the 20 yard line.

The middle line of the Tunnel to wedge transition of the Cal Band is the first line out of the tunnel. The bomb eater is the person who leads this line. You will notice this person march right toward the North endzone goal post, and at the last minute step aside and avoid the post. As this line moves closer to their position, the bomb will go off at the 20 yard line, and the bomb eater is the closet person in the band to the explosion, hence the name "bomb-eater."

The bomb eater is always a senior Cal Band trumpet member, usually chosen by the STUNT committee.
