March-Up Continuities
Like every other section of the Cal Band, the piccolos have a large set of continuities that we perform during the "military" cadence in the march up from Sather Gate to the stadium. Click here for the current list of Picc continuities.
Cadences
After every home football game, the band marches through the streets of Berkeley, ultimately high stepping the last 50 yards or so to a halt on Sproul Plaza. Traditionally, the piccolos play a cadence during this march down. Other sections of the band have played cadences, but our just happen to be awesome. Click here for some of the cadences that the piccolos have performed over the years.
Lights Out Hand Motions
The piccolo section is the originator of the hand motions that go along with the lyrics to the Cal song "Lights Out". The other sections of the band and even rally-comm members and students have adopted the motions. Yeah, that was ALL us, thank you very much.
The Pinky
Instead of "clicking" in the tunnel minutes before a performance of pregame, the piccolos wish each other good luck by joining pinky fingers. Piccolos will still "click" with other non-piccolos, but they are too sophisticated to perform such a violent act with other members of the section.
Left Row Adventures
During marchup and marchdown, the piccolo section is the frontmost section of the back half of the band (behind percussion). As a result, the leftmost line occasionally breaks off from the rest of block and goes on "adventures". This generally only occurs during marchdown. An adventure begins with the leftmost piccolo in the front line turning away from the block at some point and the piccolos behind following. Depending on their mood, the leftmost line of phonez, tenors, and nets will occasionally follow.

Adventures originated (to my knowledge, their actual roots may be older still) towards the end of the 2004 season with Carly Jann leading adventures. They began with simply going through the triangular path in front of the PFA after every game and grew from there. More recent adventures have included trips through Strada, Bancroft Clothing, and visiting the drum major at the front of the band. Nick Mulrean took over leading the adventures in the 2006 season after Carly left the band, and Sarah Beth Eisinger led one innovative adventure through VLSB during a High School Band Day marchdown. Future plans include a trip down Durant.

Sidenote: Apparently, the trombones (the frontmost section of the front block) go on adventures as well. We were not aware they did this when we started going on adventures. Also, ours are cooler.
