Alumni Band Day 2008
The principal activity of the CBAA is Alumni Band Day. Alumni Band Day 2008 is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2008.
For the first time in a very long while, Alumni Band Day is on Homecoming game day vs. Arizona State. Watch for *free* as the Bears take on the Sun Devils. The game time has not been set yet. We will know 2 weeks before the game, if not before.
In addition, we are also celebrating the 50th reunion of the Brussels Tour Band of 1958. They are having a reunion on Friday night as well as joining us for the Alumni Band Day. Contact Larry Augusta at .
Normally, the downbeat at Maxwell Family Field (just north of Memorial Stadium) is 7 hours before gametime. There is additional uncertainty this year because of the Memorial Stadium renovation. If the construction is able to start before Alumni Band Day, they may use Maxwell Field for construction materials.
The Cal Band Alumni Association is 100% “in tune” with Cal Athletics and we will try hard to have a schedule that works for everyone.
In the past, this is how the schedule has worked. The early meet time is set because of access to Maxwell Field before the FunZone has to be set up. “BGT” stands for “Before Game Time.”
8 hours BGT: BRH (if you need an instrument)
7 ½ hours BGT: Maxwell Field (just north of Memorial), Check-in, donuts, coffee, juice
7 hours BGT: DOWNBEAT on Maxwell!
4 ¾ hours BGT: Practice ends (snack provided)
4 hours BGT: BRH- Full check-in including merchandise sales
3 ¼ hours BGT: DOWNBEAT in BRH for music rehearsal
2 ¼ hours BGT: Sandwich lunch on Lower Sproul
1 ½ hours BGT: Cal Band Sproul Steps concert
1 ¼ hours BGT: Sather Gate parade form-up
1 hour BGT: Play 15 minute concert inside FunZone
30 minutes BGT: Enter Memorial Stadium
5 minutes BGT: Perform Star Spangled Banner with the Cal Band
GT: Kickoff!
Uniform: Alumni Band polo shirt & hat, jeans or dark pants/shorts. Shirts & hats are available for purchase. CBAA Member prices: $19/shirt, $11/hat; non-member prices add $5 each. You are NOT required to purchase the new style shirt & hat. We also have womens style polo shirts. A new shirt & hat are included with a first-time 2-year membership ($30) or any new lifetime membership ($325, or $80 per year for 5 years). Credit cards accepted. Alumni Show: We will pay tribute to the 50th reunion of the Brussels Tour Band of 1958 as well as perform the traditional script “California” with the Cal Band.

Instruments: Available on a first come first serve basis at 7:30am in BRH. No guarantees!
Reception: Immediately following the game, there is a reception in Alumni House (free snacks, soda, beer) for ALL former Cal Band members & families. You do not need to have marched in Alumni Band Day to join us for the reception.
Tickets: Band members with instruments and kids holding the banner (see below) receive free entry. ALL non-marchers need tickets and should enter through another gate (there is usually room near the Alumni Band to sit at the front of sections I and II). To help our family members without tickets, marchers with season tickets are highly encouraged to bring their tickets to give to those without tickets. Tickets can also be purchased from calbears.com or 1-800-GO-BEARS.
Banner Kids: To carry the banner on the field during halftime, kids MUST be at least 53 inches tall & attend the morning marching rehearsal. Limited spots are given on a first come first serve basis. The uniform is a white Cal shirt & blue Cal hat.
All kids of all sizes are encouraged to march behind the Alumni Band banner on our way from Sather Gate to the stadium.
NorCal Party: On Friday, September 19th, 2008 (a football “bye” weekend), we hope you will join us for a fun-filled and exciting evening in support of the Cal Band. This year’s NorCal Benefit will be held at the fabulous Julia Morgan designed Berkeley City Club with a theme of “Blue Nights, Golden Lights” and it promises to be an extraordinarily eventful evening with all proceeds going towards the support of our beloved Cal Band.
