The Cal Band prides itself in its unique system of student government. The main governing body of the band is the Executive Committee, which is comprised of the Director – the Band's only University employee – and five student officers: the Senior Manager, Public Relations Director, Drum Major, Student Director, and Executive Secretary. The Senior Manager is appointed by the previous Executive Committee, while the other four student officers are elected annually by all band members. Each student officer has several committees to assist in accomplishing his or her duties, enabling many Band members to be involved behind the scenes. These student committees perform a variety of tasks, including teaching at the Fall Training Program, publicizing Band events, planning logistics, leading instrument sections, budgeting, and much more.
